The Opportunity Fund is a nonprofit organization that has provided four AFI grants since 2003, with the goal of providing low-income households with the opportunity to increase their financial management skills, establish habits of saving on a regular basis, and invest in high-return assets.
The Opportunity Fund emphasizes homeownership, postsecondary education, and business capitalization, with the goal of demonstrating an effective approach to fighting chronic poverty among low- and extremely low-income households in distressed San Francisco neighborhoods. The fund has been successful in opening IDAs, recruiting participants, providing financial education, and purchasing assets.
