United Way of Central Alabama

United Way of Central Alabama is a nonprofit that has provided five AFI grants since 2005 with the objective of implementing programs that will improve financial stability through asset accumulation among residents of Alabama.

United Way of Central Alabama is a network grantee with nine subgrantees. United Way of Central Alabama emphasizes homeownership, postsecondary education, and business capitalization with the goal of increasing financial stability for residents across the State of Alabama. United Way of Central Alabama has been successful in recruiting a diverse set of non-Federal funders as well as partnering with many local organizations to carry out the AFI project.

United Way of Central Alabama partners with Bessemer Housing Authority; Bessemer State Technical College Foundation; Birmingham Home Ownership Center; Birmingham Urban League; Boat People SOS; City of Auburn; Community Action Agency of Baldwin; Escambia, Clarke, Monroe, and Conecuh Counties; Community Action Agency of Northeast Alabama; Community Service Programs of West AL; Family Success Center-Etowah; Greene/Sumter Enterprise Community; HERO; Hope House-Blount County; Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity; Jonathan Daniels CDC; Mobile Community Action Association; Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham; Prichard Housing Authority; Tuskegee Macon CDC; United Way of Etowah County; United Way of Madison County; United Way of West Alabama; Temporary Emergency Services; Alabama Cooperative Extension System; Aliant Bank; Consumer Credit Counseling Services; Westside CDC; NACA; Birmingham Business Center; BEAT; Habitat For Humanity; Lake Martin Area United Way; Independent Living Center-Walker County; and Family Counseling Services to provide enrollment, eligibility determination, financial education, asset-specific training, and tax assistance.
